Photo of Burn on Capitol Steps
One of McMinn County's most famous citizens, Harry T. Burn, a young state representative from Niota, cast the deciding vote to ratify the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution on August 19, 1920. This picture, popular at the time on postcards and in newspapers, shows Burn at front center receiving congratulations from suffrage leaders on the steps of the Tennessee State Capitol. (Guy, 2010)
